Beings from the sky

ask-gquan:

I was preparing to explain to my uncle that I was leaving.  I have been here much too long and my brother has been caring for my farm for over a month as it is.  My mother may have been a Healer, but I am a farmer and my father would be ashamed of my dereliction.

As if he knew what was on my mind (he may well have known, being a Seer) Uncle Ha’Ternoth shook his head and said, “Not today, G’Quan.  Today G’Lan brings news.  Beings come from the sky, he says.  A young man like you will want to hear of this.  You will want to take the news home.”

How well my uncle knew me despite my only being under his roof for a short time.  Beings from the sky?  What wonders they must know?  And who had not heard of G’Lan?  I was in awe.  “Uncle?” I asked, “Do you mean the G’Lan?”

“Yes, the G’Lan from the Second Circle.  He works with the Mind Walkers and the Inner Circle and he saw them come from the sky.  A group of leaders are planning to go to their boats and meet with them.”

I had never expected to be in such a place with such an illustrious Narn.  But I was concerned.  “Why are they going to their boats?  Surely the beings from the sky know we are here.  Why did they not go to meet our leaders?”

“We do not know.  That is why the leaders go to meet them.  What wonders will they tell us, our new friends from the sky?”

For the first time since I left my brother I thought of Tza’Vin.  His friends had wonders as well.  “What if these beings form the sky are not friends?”

“Why would they come here unless to meet with us?  I am sure that they must have amazing tools to come from the sky.  They might be gods themselves.  We have done nothing to any sky beings.  Why would be enemies?”

“I am concerned.”

“We need to me them before your concerns or my optimism is warranted.” Ha’Ternoth said finally.  “You should tell G’Lan of your concerns.  He will listen.”

“I am only a farmer’s son.” I said lamely.

“You are my sister’s son and I would never discount you lightly.”  Uncle smiled then.  “You are interested in our new friends.  Stay for a few more days.   Did you want to meet your mother’s parents?”

“They would meet me?”

“They would.  They were not happy that your mother chose to marry a farmer, but they understood it was necessary.  For now, I must prepare for G’Lan’s visit.  I will take you to your grandparents tomorrow.”  As if by afterthought he said, “You should go to the Temple of Vas and meet the Holy Seer that named my sister.  She is the one that put her on her path.  Her name is Ha’Da’JoneH”  His eyes clouded for a second.  “Yes, why don’t you see her today and then we can have dinner with G’Lan.”
